Family History Research

 

The Library provides access to a variety of resources to assist people in tracing their family history and compiling their family tree. These resources include:

Biographical register of Canberra and Queanbeyan and Census and Electoral Rolls

These provide access to information about people who have lived in the region.

Queanbeyan Pioneer Cemeteries

Records of burials can also be searched online through the Queanbeyan City Council website.

Births, Death and Marriages

The NSW State Government provides online access to their records.  It is free to search and you can request copies of certificates for a fee.

Monaro Pioneers

Monaro Pioneers is a useful resource  for searching for people connected to the Queanbeyan region.  It is available online at http://www.monaropioneers.com/index.html and it free to use.

Trove

Trove is online at http://trove.nla.gov.au/

It is a free, online resource, produced by the National Library of Australia and provides access to a wealth of information about all aspects of Australian history. Use it for searching for people and events particularly in newspapers.  You can find over 357,561,672  Australian and online resources:  books, images, historic newspapers, maps, music, archives and more.
